#TeslaPortugalisbetter..."...This post was created regarding the possibility of Tesla building a Gigafactory-2 in Europe as announced by the manufacturer in November, to build both cars and batteries. Portugal, Spain, France, Czech Republic and the Netherlands are in the race to get the factory! I belive that Portugal has at least 19 good reasons to get the Gigafactory.
1. Access to Ready-to-Export SeaPorts....continue lendo...Keep reading because there are 19 reasons .... at least!

Portugal features several world-class seaports with extensive experience and infrastructure to export cars to Europe and elsewhere.
2. Multimodal Access to EMEA/ US.
Portugal features several world-class seaports with extensive experience and infrastructure to export cars to Europe and elsewhere.
3. Railway Network for Proposed Location
Poceirão / Palmela proposed location is close to Autoeuropa car plant and can benefit from the same logistics infrastructure already in place, including a railway to Setúbal seaport.
4. Complementary Electric Grid.

About 50% electricity consumption in Portugal already comes from renewable sources and the electric grid is prepared for renewables. Gigafactory-2 can resell or stock excessive solar capacity to the national grid.
5. High Productivity Auto-Cluster.
Portuguese auto-cluster is world-class and factories like Renault Cacia are best in class inside Renault-Nissan Group 2016, or Bosch Portugal have been awarded EFQM – European Foundation for Quality Management 2011, along many other success cases.
6. Industrial Parks Ready for Gigafactory-2.
Poceirão plot has over 40M square feet (3 x bigger than GF-1) and can house both batteries and car factories plus a logistics terminal. Only 20mins from Lisbon, and 15 mins from Setubal port.
7. New Lisbon Airport in Montijo
New Lisbon Airport in Montijo only 10 mins from proposed location for Gigafactory-2. Montijo Airport is dedicated for low-cost and logistic flights.
8. Main Lisbon Airport
Lisbon main airport is well located within city limits and growing with new routes every year. Beijing and Guangzhou in 2017.
9. Auto Cluster Supply Chain
According to the Car Manufacturers Association of Portugal (AFIA) there are over 200 active automotive part suppliers in Portugal, from plastic molds manufacturers to electronics and cabling, led by companies such as Continental, Delphi, Visteon, Renault-Nissan and Bosch.
10. Motivated Workforce
Portuguese Universities supply of over 20.000 engineering and science graduates/ year, and there are over 100.000 students in professional training schools.
11. English Speaking Workforce
Portugal scores better than France, Spain, Czech and only loses only to the Netherlands in the English Proficiency score from
EF EPI.
12. Competitive Workers & Engineers
It's up to 3x more cost-effective per worker in Portugal than in the Netherlands, comparing labor costs alone.
13. Business Friendly Environment
Portuguese Government has an Industry 4.0 cabinet and is keen in transforming the country in a tech heaven for startups and high-tech companies with far-sighted policies torwards self driving cars, drones and robotics, now also hosting WebSummit. Portugal places 25th at
EASE OF DOING BUSINESS RANK (2016) from The World Bank.
14. EV Charging Industrial Partners
Portuguese company EFACEC is one of the leading fast charger manufacturers in the World, competing directly with ABB and Siemens, with several installed stations in EMEA and the US.
15. Lots of Sunshine for Solar Pannels
GigaFactory-1 rooftop is covered with solar panels that generate electricity for the factory. Reno area where GigaFactory-1 is being built has approximately the same GHR (1700KWh/m2) that most of continental Portugal.
16. Portugal has the Biggest Lithium Mines in Europe
According to United States Geological Survey research published in 2015, Portugal has the 5th biggest lithium reserves in World. Europe’s biggest producer – the Gigafactory-2 can be supplied within a few hours via railway.
17. Local Contractors for GigaFactory-2 Construction
Local contractors like
Mota-Engil,
Teixeira Duarte and others have extensive know-how and local workforce and can offer state-of-the-art anti-seismic solutions for the construction of the Gigafactory on the budget.
18. Tax Benefits for Industrial Projects
The Portuguese Government and the European Union are major supporters through a host of financial programs and tax breaks that encourage industrial and R&D investments.
19. Passionate Tesla Community
We have set up an informal group to support bringing GigaFactory-2 to Portugal. If you think you can help, join us at our
facebook group to get #gigainportugal. In less than 2 days our facebook group grew from zero to over 10000 people that endorse and support the construction of the Gigafactory-2 in Portugal.
PS: I've collected data from several sources which are referred to, and inspiration came from several contributions, including from Rui da Rocha Ferreira
post among other people.
Videos showing that Portugal is a natural choice, for a technological investment.
